13 August 2009: Second flu wave in the offing? Virus may make a comeback in northern hemisphere in the fall Chicago: U.S. health officials are gearing up for the return this fall of the influenza A (H1N1) flu virus that has sparked a global pandemic, but some scientists say a second, potentially more severe wave of disease is not inevitable. There is not enough proof that the relatively mild spring wave of H1N1 flu is a harbinger of a more severe outbreak. Companies are working to make vaccine to protect people from the new swine flu and people lined up at clinical trial sites this week to test it at many research centres across the United States. The WHO said last week the first vaccine to combat H1N1 flu should be approved and ready for use in some countries starting in September - Reuter.

22 August 2009: Half of flu deaths from high-risk group Washington. About half of people who have died from A (H1N1) flu have been pregnant or had other health conditions especially diabetes or condition linked with obesity. Most deaths (51%) occurred in the age group of 20-40 year-olds. There was however, considerable variation depending on country or continent. There was documented underlying disease in at least 49% of documented fatal cases worldwide to date. Although previous report suggested that cases of pandemic H1N1 influenza 2009 occurred mainly on children. the mean and median age of the 343 fatal cases were 37 years.-Reuter.

22 August 2009 : Prepare for Next Wave Beijing : World Health Organization Chief Margaret Chan is urging governments to prepare for a likely second wave of A(H1N1) flu cases, cautioning they will face tough decision on how to dispense vaccines. About 1,800 people have died since A(H1N1) influenza was first uncovered in April, according to teh latest update from the WHO issued this week. The vast majority of those deaths have been recorded in teh America. The WHO declared a global pandemic in June, and the Agency now says that there are confirmed cases in more than 170 countries. Chan said that while hte epidemic appears to be peaking in the southern hemisphere, pandemic preparation should be stepped up in the southern hemisphere as the seasonal flu season approaches. Chan said the issue of vaccine supplies needed to be tackled "head-on" as more than two dozens pharmaceutical companies around the world scramble to produce safe and effective vaccination. The WHO said earlier that countries in the southern hemisphere alone had ordered more than one billion does of H1N1 flu vaccine, sparking warning about shortage given the intense demand and production delays. |
N95 Mask may not provide adequate protection !
N95 mask are effective at filtering out particulate matters and most bacteria such as tuberculosis which measure 0.5 micron.
Viruses are much smaller than salt particles or bacteria ranging from 0.02 - 0.29 micron. They can penetrate ordinary N95 masks at a significantly higher rate.
Some pathogens have an infectious dose as low as one organism.
Permitting 10% leakage of contaminated air can be a serious oversight.
Why use Safelife P95 mask?
Safelife p95 mask uses a patented material called Triosyn resin. It is a broad spectrum polymer with iodine which destroys dangerous organism through a proprietary demand-release delivery mechanism.
The mechanism is activated by strong attraction to a passing microorganism. Molecular iodine from the Triosyn resin will transfer to the surface proteins of the microorganism, immediately oxidizing the proteins on the microorganism's surface and rendering it harmless.
The Triosyn resin is non-harmful to human and the environment because the iodine is only released in the presence of demand causing microorganism and only in the amount required for eliminating the source of demand.
