Raw Material
The raw material of finger cot is latex from the rubber tree. (Hevea brasiliensis).

Rubber trees in a rubber estate.
Rubber tree grows in tropical countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Brazil etc.
The rubber tree requires a climate with heavy rainfall and without frost.
The latex is harvested from the rubber tree when the tree is 5 - 6 years old.

Rubber seeds.
The latex occurs in latex vessel in the bark outside the phloem. These vessels spiral up the tree in a right handed helix which is at an angle of 30 degree with the horizontal.

Incision made to tap the latex. Latex can be seen flowing into a collection cup.
In order to tap the latex, incision has to be made orthogonal to the latex vessel. Care must be exercised not to cut too deep. The incision should be just deep enough to tap the latex; otherwise it will hurt the rubber tree. This process is called rubber tapping.
The tapping time has to be in the morning between 6 am to 9 am when the latex is abundant. It is not a practice to tap the rubber tree in the afternoon as the latex is lesser.
The latex is collected in a small cup which later will be collected in a bigger bucket by the rubber tapper who will bring back to factory for further processing.

Latex glass collection cup. Very rare in the industry even in the old days.
